More than 1,200 truffle trees have been planted in Charette as part of Domaine Le Grand Bellechasse, a $500,000 agroforestry project led by four passionate teachers. In partnership with Truffes Québec, they will primarily cultivate Appalachian truffles, with the hope of creating a regional appellation.
The project also included a market garden focused on hot peppers and herbs for herbal teas. However, the Agricultural Land Protection Commission rejected the tourist accommodation component, slowing the planned tourism expansion. Despite this setback, the developers remained motivated and focused on growing and producing vegetables.
